Det galaktiske Imperium, også kendt som Den nye orden, eller bare Imperiet, var den regering der efterfulgte den galaktiske republik efter klon krigene. Imperiet var totalitært, imperialistisk, og Xenofobisk.

Imperiet blev stiftet af over kansler Palpatine umildtbart efter afslutningen af klon krigene og Palpatine udråbte sig selv til Kejser af det nye Imperium.
